Practically all government programs designed to stop rainforest destruction have so far produced negligible results. Many governments in rainforest countries are still downplaying the current rainforest crisis. This may mean that the critical time span for effective political decisions and action will pass by unused—unless public pressure convinces governments to take action. [more]

  • Intergovernmental Panel on Forests - Program of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development. Site includes all documents from panel sessions.
  • International Institute of Tropical Forestry - Part of the U.S. Forest Service, located in Puerto Rico, this institute is dedicated to sustaining the ecosystems of tropical forests. The IITF is part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service.
