Burma holds half of the remaining forest in mainland Southeast Asia. Burma's neighbors--China, India, and Thailand--have lost virtually all of their original forest cover, and rely increasingly on Burma as a source of timber. Most of the regional timber trade is illegal.

Burma's teak forest reserve is the largest in the world, but it is being steadily destroyed by the ruling regime. [more]
