Situated in Western Africa between Benin and Ghana, Togo is home to 3,450,000 acres of forest cover, representing 24 percent of Togo’s total area. Only 11 percent of this tropical country’s forests are protected by reserves. The average annual decrease of Togo’s forest cover is approximately 1.4 percent. Much of this forest destruction is due to the commercial demand for fine woods such as acajo, sipo, and aybe. [more]
