Angola, located on the southwestern coast of Africa, is the southernmost country in the Congo Basin. Angola has lost all of its large tracts of tropical rainforest, due in large part to political instability and the resulting poverty.

Overseas demand for tropical timber and domestic use of wood for fuel are the main sources of deforestation in Angola. The forest loss has caused soil erosion, contributing to water pollution and the siltation of rivers and dams. [more]
